South coast of Barcelona
Barcelona’s south coast has a flatter landscape than its north coast, with inviting kilometre-long beaches. The area is also home to a cava-lover’s paradise – the Penedès region. There are two locations along the south coast that stand out just that bit more – Castelldefels and Sitges. Castelldefels is a popular residential area offering both wonderful villas with panoramic sea views and apartments within walking distance of the fantastic beach. The area is home to several international schools, such as the British School of Barcelona. Castelldefels is also known for its vast array of water sports, becoming known as the key destination in Catalonia for water sports lovers. Thanks to its location on the same side of Barcelona as the airport, Castelldefels is convenient for both those commuting long-distance, with flights to the rest of the world, and short distance, with train and road connections to Barcelona city.
Continuing southwards, we come to the wonderful area of Sitges. The best way to describe Sitges is a miniature Barcelona. Originally a fishing village, Sitges has since grown into ‘the small town with plenty to offer’, with a vast array of restaurants and shopping and nightlife venues. The town has managed to retain its genuine feeling, with its beautiful older buildings at its heart, complemented by minimalist villas on the mountain around the town, where there is also an excellent golf course surrounded by the grand hotel Dolce Sitges. Sitges has it all, from charming townhouses and villas on the mountain sides around the village to apartments within walking distance of both the beach and the train station, with an easy regular connection into the city.
